Free Income Tax and Tax Credit Preparation Service - Late January through mid-April -- at 26 locations in southeast Michigan.
Requirements for Tax Preparation Assistance
- Must Meet Income Guidelines
For Individuals, annual income up to $20,000 (regardless of age) For Families, annual income up to $40,000 (Families = married couples, or people with at least one dependent)
- Bring identification - Driver's license or State I.D.
- Social Security numbers for yourself, (and if applicable) your spouse, and each dependent
(You must bring the actual Social Security cards if you want us to electronically file your returns)
What's Considered Income Please Bring Wages Form W-2 (s) Unemployment Form 1099-G Pension Form 1099-R Social Security Form SSA - 1099 Supp. Security Income (SSI) Statement showing amount of payments Interest/Dividends Form 1099-INT Form 1099-DIV DHS (was FIA) Assistance DHS Customer Annual Statement Child Support Child Support Annual Statement Gambling/Lottery Winnings Form W-2G Miscellaneous Income Form 1099-MISC
Expenses (Bring related copies of bills, receipts, etc. for any of these that are applicable to you) - Medical Insurance or HMO premiums paid for yourself and/or family - Dependent care expenses, - Student loan interest, Tuition
Home Heating Credit - Amount of Heating Costs for period 11/1/06 through 10/31/07 (Call your heat provider and ask for your annual heating costs)
Homestead Property Tax Credit For Homeowners: Taxable value of home and city and county property tax bills for the tax year. Mortgage Escrow Statement (if taxes are escrowed), or a copy of city and county property tax bills for the tax year. (Basically, copies of your summer and winter tax bills.)
For Renters: Lease or rental contract, rent receipts for the tax year, and landlord's name and address
Direct Deposit Now you can direct deposit your federal return into up to three accounts. For each account, bring the bank or credit union's name, account number and the bank or credit union's routing number.
