Our History Accounting Aid Society was established in 1972 by accountants who wanted to give back to the community. Over the years, Accounting Aid Society has become the leader in providing tax assistance to, and promoting the economic self-sufficiency of, low- and moderate-income families in southeast Michigan. Nationally recognized, Accounting Aid has returned more than $170 million to southeast Michigan. A nonprofit celebrating more than 35 years of service to the community, support for Accounting Aid Society leads to community initiatives that provide hard-working individuals and families the resources they need to increase their incomes, build savings, acquire assets and break the cycle of poverty. Accounting Aid Society is a member agency of United Way for Southeastern Michigan. The agency receives funding from businesses, individuals, government agencies and foundations such as United Way, Masco Corporation, McGregor Fund, Skillman Foundation, Internal Revenue Services, Michigan Association of CPAs, DTE Energy, JPMorganChase, the cities of Detroit, Pontiac and Southfield, the Mary Thompson Foundation, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Ford Motor Company, PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP, Comerica Bank, and many other companies.
